The Story Behind Tinker Mei’s Website Creation
My website story begins with a little curiosity, a playful nickname and a desire to create something meaningful.
Hi there! (✿◠‿◠)♡ Pardon the little mess with my website. 
I’m still learning and navigating as I build and design it. I’m still figuring things out, rearranging and adding new pages and writing our new and old stories. It might still be a little messy, but I’m slowly and diligently finding my way, one step at a time and persistently tinkering behind the scenes to make it better.
I’m simply happy doing this, creating my simple webspace and sharing my blog. 
I create from the heart, not to compare or impress, but to share and express . I’m keeping this like a journal of mine, something for my husband and kids can read about our moments together♡, we can read and reminisce over someday when my kids are grown up♡ and my when husband and I gets older (✿◠‿◠)♡, something for my family to look back on, and for other readers to enjoy along the way. I just hope to inspire and enlighten someone. And if it ever does, that would truly make me happy.
It took me months, I started in February 2025, I know I was so slow because behind this are countless challenges and hours of self-teaching, constant editing, gathering insights from different online references, late night readings, long hours of tutorials, inspo searching, endless Googling, finding guides for hosting issues, and consistent learning. Building a website isn’t just about design, it’s also about understanding how everything works behind the scenes it’s like learning both the creative and technical sides. I’ve tried squeezing this all in, in between household chores, sometimes doing some side hustles, in sickness and in health hahahaha (✿˃ᗜ˂), while being a full-time housewifey, stay-at-home mommy, juggling the struggle and kids’ chaos (ˆᴗˆ✿), with my hubby mixing magic daily and love of our little family.
My website design and blog may not be perfect (◡‿◡✿), just like me (❛‿❛✿). Please bear with me :). I’m a beginner, I’m not a pro and I don’t have any formal training in web design.
But you know what, I’m not sure if Friendster and MySpace days back in 2004 can be counted as my tiny sprinkle and small intro of web design experience (story here).
But as of now, I’m happy with what I’ve learned and created so far with tinkermei.com. I’ve really enjoyed learning, trying hundreds of trials and errors and experimenting with my website I’ve truly tried my best. I started from scratch with a blank canvas and a curious mind seeking creativity and answers.
And I’ve made it with love, designed it with dedication and built it with determination and I know, I still have a long, long, long, long loooooonng (✿˃ᗜ˂), way to go.
Not everything has to be perfect to make us happy. Sometimes, it’s the hardships, experiences and imperfections along the way that make things feel right, real and meaningful. We just have to look on the bright side to find happiness, fulfillment and beauty in imperfections. Sometimes, learning to appreciate complicated imperfections eventually leads to perfection.(✿◠‿◠)♡

DIY Tinkering, Design and Domain Saga
Back in 2017, (❛‿❛✿) I started a website (Simply Mei) in a free beginner-friendly website builder, excited to share my thoughts, daily life, and experiences. But life got busy and I stopped updating it. I became focused on motherhood and family life as we began building our family and raising our kids.
By 2018, I thought I had decided to take things seriously (maybe (✿˃ᴗ˂). I purchased my domain and hosting (6.5 yrs old now) and started managing it. I started working on it under the Astra theme, but I always set it under construction mode, and went live once or twice.
My Doomed Domain
Time passed, and before I knew it, (◡‿◡✿) my domain expired and I missed the redemption period in 2024, but hosting was still active and working, so I still had my posts, pages, media and settings. It was frustrating, it was like a doomsday for my domain, yeah! That’s what I felt ·°՞(˃ ᗜ ˂)՞°·. .
Keeping Tinker Mei
I almost let it go, I even had a dilemma of changing my domain, keeping the new one that I bought, named after me. But after a few weeks of thinking, I’ve decided to keep Tinkermei. I waited for its drop time (July 2024), and it became available again and I reclaimed it. I repurchased it with a fresh mindset.
Customization and Research
I continued with the Astra theme and played with other themes. But it doesn’t fit my liking of having the freedom to customize everything and every little detail that I’d like to change. I felt like I didn’t have much freedom to customize my site. That prompted me to start doing more research and studying. I learned that it’s actually possible to customize and personalize everything. Like to start from the beginning.
Restarting from Scratch
I know I missed a lot of time and will be missing a lot more if I start from scratch. But at that time, I was so certain to start from zero and create my simple website with my personalized design (no coding and very minimal copy paste CSS and HTML). Restart button activated! (✿◠‿◠)♡
Why "Tinker Mei"?
“Tinker Mei” (✿◠‿◠)♡ has been my nickname since the early 2000s, inspired by a little fairy. I think we both love to tinker, create and explore. I’m always chasing new ideas, curious, and try new things. Like crafting, cooking, trying out new food, or finding new adventures and places. I can be a little mischievous and spirited too!
I find happiness in simple moments and everyday adventures. I’ve always believed that there’s a beauty beyond simple moments and that real beauty can also be found in simplicity, and that even the smallest moments hold their own magic a spirit that is reflected in my website and the stories i tell.
♡That’s how the name Tinker Mei was created, and that’s why I named my website after it.♡
Again :), I’m not a professional, I just love building new skills, gaining knowledge, and solving challenges, so it took me a lot of time, research, trial and error, headaches (✿˃ᴗ˂), but in the end, I’m so happy with how it turned out.
It’s not easy, while self-studying, it’s draining, frustrating when researching, and exhausting after doing a lot of things. But at the end of the day, still, I’m enjoying every bit of it because every little challenge and progress feels rewarding, every small win feels like an achievement, and seeing my small improvements and ideas slowly come to life makes all the effort worth it. It gives me a sense of purpose. It’s so fulfilling and so meaningful.
It reminded me that every small step, one at a time, builds personal growth. Just stay focused, take a break when needed, but be consistent, be resilient, patient, and persistent.
After all the tinkering, the heart♡ of my website is built, its soul✿ is in place, it’s simple, not perfect, but made with love. Every page reflects me and my love for my family, and I can’t wait to hold memories in every page and share more stories! (✿˃ᴗ˂)
